Warkworth is a rapidly expanding town approximately 40 minutes drive north of Auckland CBD. We note the next stage of the Northern motorway extension, from Puhoi to Warkworth, has an expected completion date of 2022, and will reduce travelling time to Auckland city considerably. As part of the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan Warkworth is to become a satellite town of Auckland with thousands of new homes planned. Currently there are plans for an extension to the existing Summerset Retirement Village in Woodcock Road, a new retirement village on the corner of Neville and Queens Streets, and the Grange development on State Highway 1 which will provide approximately 7,067m2 of retail space. Just north of the CBD Auckland Council is spending a large amount on the showgrounds recreation area upgrading recreational facilities.
Warkworth is regarded as the gateway to Kawau Bay and numerous beach resort areas including Sandspit, Omaha, and the Matakana region.
