Queenstown awaits imminent opening of The Landing
Yevrah Ornstein, owner of Zambrero Queenstown, which is opening in The Landing retail development at Remarkables Park near Queenstown Airport
Queenstown is looking forward to the scheduled opening this month of The Landing retail centre official opening with multi award winning Rilean, the main contractor, working closely with tenants to fit out the last internal spaces.
Located in Remarkables Park near Queenstown Airport, Stage One of The Landing was completed in December 2014 and Rilean is currently putting the finishing touches to Stage Two.
Tenants include Mexican restaurant Zambrero, health providers Remarkable Physios, Snap Fitness gym, Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria, Organico Health Store and a yet unnamed ethnic grocery specialist.
Zambrero is an Australian-franchised quick service restaurant that sells healthy, fresh and nutritious Mexican food to support humanitarian projects in Africa, Asia and the Americas and most recently Australia.
Queenstown local, Yevrah Ornstein, former co-owner and manager of the resort’s Matakauri Lodge, says he first came across the restaurant during regular visits to the Gold Coast.
“One day I was in the queue with maybe 20 others, when I overheard two businessmen say: ‘I would eat this everyday if I could.’ I knew then I had to bring this concept to Queenstown,” says Ornstein. “I loved the food so much, I bought a franchise and I felt The Landing was the perfect spot to open.”
Zambrero will occupy 100 sq m and offer take-out and dine in options, with seating inside and outside in a sunny courtyard with all-day sun.
“The company’s philanthropic practices also fit well with my personal beliefs. It’s tragic that millions of people still live in starvation yet most people would love to do their bit to help. Now Queenstowners and visitors can help, every time they choose to eat at Zambrero,” says Ornstein.
This is achieved via the Plate 4 Plate charity initiative. For every burrito or bowl sold at any Zambrero restaurant, another meal goes to someone in need around the world.
Formed in 2005 in Australia by young entrepreneur, medical doctor and philanthropist Dr Sam Prince, the 45-plus Zambrero restaurants have provided millions of meals to those living in poverty around the world through the Plate 4 Plate initiative.
Remarkable Physios occupies a ground floor corner location in the development and specialises in treatments aimed at getting patients back to full pain free function as quickly as possible, using techniques such as manual therapy, acupuncture, pilates, k-taping, massage, and work conditioning.
With four private treatment rooms and a fully-equipped rehabilitation gym, Remarkable Physios has a complete package of care for clients.
Managing director and principal Physios therapist Melissa Davidson says the clinic offers quality ACC and private care for all types of injuries and medical issues by highly qualified Physiotherapists.
“The Landing is in a highly visible location and our ground floor site gives our patients easier access and parking directly outside,” Davidson says..
“We’re looking forward to being part of the expanded retail shopping, close to the new High School, planned Conference Centre, and other growth in the area.”
“We’ll also retain our CBD clinic in the centre of Queenstown for the convenience of locals and visitors at that end of town.”
A Christchurch-based ethnic grocery will offer a large range of fresh and packaged foods from around the world in its 450 sq m store at The Landing.
“Specialising in Asian foods from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines, the yet-to-be-named store, is run by three directors who specialise in this area of the food market,” says Jinman Nan speaking on behalf of the directors.
The venture started out in Christchurch, where the extensive range of fresh exotic vegetables and produce from around the globe has “proved popular with locals”.
After their first visit to the area four years ago, Nan and his associates thought Queenstown’s fast and growing business district was the ideal forum for their second business venture.
Two new businesses in The Landing bring a touch of European flair - The Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria and the Organico Health Store.
The European-influenced Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria, opens 12 hours daily from 6 am and offers all types of artisan bread from white to rye and French baguettes, as well as savoury and sweet pastries, croissants, cinnamon rolls, French tarts and meat pies. The authentic Italian pizzeria will have space to dine in or take away.
The bakery and pizzeria will be the only place in Queenstown to serve Santos coffee, lauded in as the second-best organic coffee in New Zealand late last year in the Huhtamaki New Zealand Coffee Awards 2014.
The Organico Health Store offers supplements, organic ice cream, dried fruit, seeds, organic pasta and oils, organic cosmetics and baby supplies, and opens from 8 am to 6 pm daily.
The first stage of The Landing officially opened in December last year with Australasia’s leading automotive re-seller Repco becoming the first of the anchor tenants to open its doors.
Daniel Parsonage, one of the three directors of the Snap Fitness gym within The Landing, says it is Queenstown’s first 24-hour full gym facility with month by month contracts.
"It’s a $600,000 fit out, the equipment is up-to-the minute and is social media interactive, something unique in Queenstown," Parsonage says.
Other occupiers include the Odelay Cafe, an Alpine-inspired space nestled into a sheltered north-facing position with seating indoors and out and Queenstown’s first hair and fashion concept store run by well-known local businesswomen Christine and Sharron Holland..
Auckland-based premium meat providers Neat Meat has chosen The Landing for its second retail store and wholesale business, and the sixth House of Travel store in Otago is another tenant.
Established 20 years ago, Rilean has won several Master Builders Association awards for its commercial and residential works. In 2011 Rilean launched the evolution series of houses which are sustainable and energy-efficient homes and in 2012 Rilean won the Trade and Construction category at the Westpac Queenstown Chamber of Commerce awards.
Rilean Construction operates under two company structures – Rilean Construction (Central Otago) Limited and Rilean Construction (Canterbury) Limited, based in Queenstown and Christchurch.
Between the two companies, Rilean has over 30 projects underway of varying size and in various stages of construction, including The Landing development at Remarkables Park, Queenstown.
