Roydons Mamaranui Transport was formed in 1964, and has been operating as a family business in Dargaville for the past 53 years.
The company started as a general carrier, but it wasn't long before they noticed an increasing request for the transport of livestock, so they converted all the trucks to be capable of hauling animals with removable crates.
In 2007 when Roydon (father) retired, Scott (son) was appointed managing director and has built the business into what it is today, a specialised livestock transport company covering the North Island but predominately Northland and Waikato.
Their freight is mostly cattle with sheep and lambs making the balance. Winter work incorporates bobby calf collections for two major meat processors, collecting around 25,000 to 30,000 bobby calves per season.
The company has nine (9) truck and trailers and two (2) four wheeler trucks all complete with livestock crates.
This is a six day a week operation starting Sunday through to Friday, with some maintenance and cleaning on Saturday and most drivers averaging 60-70 hours per week.
Scott believes that, if your gear is in good condition you then attract a better class of driver and they are prepared to treat the gear with a greater degree of respect.
